LG CNS has made a strategic move to boost its industrial humanoid robot technology. The company invested in Dexmate, a U.S. robotics firm. LG CNS announced it’s the first Korean company to invest in Dexmate. They used LG Group’s corporate venture capital arm, LG Technology Ventures, to make the deal happen.
Dexmate, based in Silicon Valley, creates advanced humanoid robots. These robots are known for their human-like movements and are used by global artificial intelligence (AI) developers for research.
Each robot from Dexmate has a wheeled base, two arms for quick tasks, and a vision-sensor head to see its surroundings. With more than 36 moving parts, these robots can do precise two-arm jobs, lift up to 15 kilograms with each arm, and run for over 20 hours on one charge.
Lee Jun-ho, who heads LG CNS’s smart logistics and city business unit, said this investment is key. “This investment is LG CNS’ strategic step to tightly integrate robotic hardware, robotics foundation model (RFM) and platforms to enable large-scale robot operations and accelerate adoption across industrial sites,” he stated.
Lee also added, “We aim to validate the humanoid robot business model that goes beyond technology testing to real-world deployment and lead the era of physical AI.”
With this latest investment, LG CNS is growing its robot hardware collection. It now includes wheeled humanoid robots, alongside its existing bipedal and quadruped robots. The company plans to use this diverse range to offer complete robotics deployment services. These services will combine hardware, RFM, and a platform for operating and training robots.
LG CNS is also building its own robot training and operating platform. It continues to form partnerships and invest in the robotics field. This includes working with U.S.-based robotics AI developer Skild AI to create specialized RFMs for different industries.
The company is also running several pilot projects. In these projects, robots learn from data in logistics, retail, and manufacturing. They perform real-world tasks like sorting items, checking ship parts, and making sure products are good quality.
