The race to build the physical foundation for artificial intelligence just hit another massive milestone. Nscale, a startup focused on building AI data centers, announced on Monday that it has raised $2 billion in fresh funding. This massive cash injection places the company’s total valuation at an impressive $14.6 billion.

The new funding round, known as a Series C, brought in some heavy hitters from the tech and finance worlds. The investment was led by Aker ASA and 8090 Industries, but it also included a significant contribution from Nvidia, the undisputed king of AI hardware. Other major players like Dell, Lenovo, Nokia, and several prominent financial firms also joined the round.

Based in the UK, Nscale plans to use the $2 billion to rapidly speed up its global expansion. The company builds what it calls “vertically integrated AI infrastructure.” This means they don’t just provide the physical space for servers; they offer a complete package that includes the powerful GPU computers, high-speed networking, data storage, and the software needed to run it all smoothly.

Nscale currently plans to use the new funds to expand its operations across Europe, North America, and Asia. As AI models become larger and more complex, the demand for this kind of specialized, high-powered infrastructure is exploding around the world.

Josh Payne, the founder and CEO of Nscale, perfectly captured the current mood of the tech industry. He noted that the ongoing AI boom is “leading to the largest infrastructure buildout in human history.” This echoes similar statements made by Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang. “We are building this foundation that the market sits on, the engine of superintelligence,” Payne added.
