Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, is back up and running after a widespread outage on Monday morning that left many users offline. The problems, which lasted for nearly six hours, left many people unable to load the app or website, or only able to see older posts.
According to X’s developer status page, the issue was related to “streaming endpoints” and caused a spike in errors. The problems started around 7:39 AM Pacific Time, when a flood of user reports began appearing on the outage-tracking website Down Detector.
Even after the service began coming back online, some lingering issues remained. For a while, the “following” tab wasn’t showing any new posts, and the site was suggesting that users “find some people and topics to follow.”
While the outage was widespread, it didn’t stop some people from having a little fun at X’s expense. The rival social media platform Bluesky, which has been in a playful war with X, took the opportunity to throw some shade.
By the afternoon, X had updated its status page to say the issue was resolved, though it didn’t provide any details on what caused the problem in the first place.
