Hyundai Motor Group unveiled its first mass-produced robot platform on Wednesday. The company displayed the machine, called the Mobile Eccentric Droid (MobED), at the International Robot Exhibition 2025 in Tokyo.
This launch marks a big step for the Korean car giant. Hyundai first showed the MobED as a concept idea at CES back in 2022. Since then, engineers have turned that concept into a finished product. They designed the robot to work autonomously using artificial intelligence.
The MobED looks like a flat, rectangular board sitting on four wheels. It acts as a “mobility platform.” This means it serves as a base for companies to build on. A factory might install a shelf to move parts, while a hotel might install a specialized box to deliver room service.
Hyundai introduced two versions at the Tokyo event. The first is MobED Basic. This model targets researchers and developers who want a solid foundation to build their own inventions. The second is MobED Pro. This version comes with advanced self-driving sensors and software already installed, making it ready for complex tasks right away.
Hyun Dong-jin, who leads the Robotics LAB at Hyundai Motor Group, explained the company’s goal. He said MobED goes beyond simple movement. He views it as a tool that fits into many different industries and daily life. The company hopes this robot will help set new standards for how humans and machines live and work together.
The robot uses a unique wheel system that keeps its main body flat and stable, even when driving over bumps or uneven ground. This makes it ideal for carrying fragile items or expensive equipment.
Hyundai plans to start mass production in the first half of 2026. Once the factory lines get moving, they will begin delivering the robots to customers who want to modernize their businesses.
