Google’s Gemini AI chatbot got a big upgrade to its Deep Research feature. First launched in March, this tool lets you ask Gemini to create detailed reports on complex topics using information from the internet. Now, a new update means it can also pull facts from your personal Gmail, Google Docs, Drive, and Chat. Google says this was one of the most requested features, and everyone can use it in Gemini, even without a paid subscription.
With this latest change, Deep Research can now look through your emails, all your Slides, Docs, Sheets, and PDFs stored in Drive, plus your chat history, to gather information. This makes your reports much more personal. Instead of just using public web sources, Gemini can now include your own specific details.
For example, suppose you ask it to write a marketing analysis. In that case, it will consider your notes, any documents your team has created, or even conversations you’ve had with colleagues over email. It can also combine information from your private accounts with public data, such as creating comparison spreadsheets for competitor analysis.
Don’t worry about giving away too much information. You get to decide exactly which Google services Gemini can access. When you open the Deep Research tool in Gemini, you’ll see a simple menu where you can check boxes for Search, Gmail, Drive, and Chat individually. This way, you retain control over your data. For now, this handy feature works only on desktop computers, but Google promises it will arrive on mobile devices very soon.
