Photoshop is becoming an AI hub, now allowing users to create images with third-party models, such as Google's popular 'Nano Banana', directly inside the app.

Adobe is making Photoshop an even more powerful creative tool by bringing in some outside help. The company just announced it’s adding two new third-party AI image generators to Photoshop’s beta app. Users can now create images with Google’s popular “Nano Banana” model and a new tool called FLUX.1 directly inside the Generative Fill feature. This represents a significant shift for Adobe, which has primarily relied on its own AI, Firefly, to date.

The new setup transforms Photoshop into a creative AI hub. A user can now generate a dreamy, stylized background using Nano Banana, add realistic shadows with FLUX.1, and then use Adobe’s own Firefly to polish the final image—all without ever leaving Photoshop. Adobe is still recommending Firefly as the go-to choice for any commercial work, as it’s trained on a database for which the company has full permission to use.

Each of the new AIs brings its own unique strengths to the table. Google’s Nano Banana is renowned for its eye-catching, stylistic visuals and its ability to create 3D-like figurines from photos that go viral. FLUX.1, developed by the creators of the AI used by X’s Grok, is more effective at generating realistic and consistent images. By allowing users to switch between them easily, Adobe is making it simple for creators to experiment and find the perfect tool for their project.

This move will likely help Adobe maintain Photoshop’s position at the top of the creative software world. For creators, it means a faster and more streamlined workflow. If you want to try out the new tools, you’ll need to opt into the Photoshop beta through the Creative Cloud app.
