SK Telecom, a leading South Korean telecommunications company, announced a significant investment of 2.2 billion Japanese yen ($14.8 million) in TimeTree, a popular Japanese schedule-sharing application. This strategic partnership, formalized last Friday, represents a key step in SK Telecom’s global expansion strategy for its artificial intelligence (AI) agent technology. The agreement marks the first time SK Telecom has licensed its proprietary Adot AI agent technology to an overseas service, highlighting the potential it sees in TimeTree’s platform.
The core of this collaboration centers on integrating SK Telecom’s advanced AI capabilities into TimeTree’s existing app. This integration will leverage TimeTree’s extensive user base of approximately 67 million users worldwide, providing a vast dataset for training and refining SK Telecom’s AI algorithms. SK Telecom CEO Ryu Young-sang emphasized the strategic value of this partnership, stating that it presents a significant opportunity to extend their AI agent technologies into global markets and build a robust AI ecosystem across Korea, Japan, and beyond.
A key feature of this collaboration is the implementation of “Agentic Workflow,” a novel technology recently integrated into Adot. This technology enables the AI agent to not only respond to user requests but also proactively set goals based on user behavior, plan and execute necessary steps autonomously. This capability will be instrumental in enhancing TimeTree’s functionality, providing users with proactive recommendations and personalized calendar management features.
TimeTree CEO Park Cha-jin expressed his enthusiasm, emphasizing that this alliance signifies a pivotal moment in shaping the future of schedule-centered AI. He highlighted TimeTree’s unique approach to utilizing schedules as natural triggers for AI-driven actions, which attracted the interest of SK Telecom due to both the innovative approach and the significant value of their extensive user data. This partnership positions TimeTree and SK Telecom at the forefront of developing intelligent scheduling solutions.
