ChatGPT's mobile app is a runaway success
ChatGPT's mobile app is a runaway success, raking in $2 billion and leaving its AI rivals in the dust.

ChatGPT isn’t just winning the AI race; it’s dominating it, at least when it comes to mobile apps. According to a new report, ChatGPT’s app has now brought in a staggering $2 billion in global consumer spending since it launched last year. That’s about 30 times more than all of its main rivals—including Claude, Copilot, and Grok—combined.

The numbers show just how far ahead OpenAI’s chatbot is. So far this year, the ChatGPT app has made $1.35 billion, a massive 673% increase from the same period last year. On average, the app is now pulling in about $193 million every month.

Its closest competitor, Elon Musk’s Grok, is a distant second, making only about $3.6 million a month. While these numbers don’t show the full picture of these companies’ finances—they also make money from web subscriptions and other services—it’s a clear sign of who is winning the hearts and wallets of everyday consumers.

The dominance extends to downloads, too. The ChatGPT app has been installed about 690 million times globally, compared to just 39.5 million for Grok. While India is the top market for downloads, the U.S. is where the money is, accounting for 38% of the app’s total revenue. The new data makes it clear that while the AI race is far from over, on mobile, ChatGPT is in a league of its own.
