LG CNS is making a big move overseas, announcing plans to build a massive artificial intelligence (AI) data center in Jakarta, Indonesia. This marks the first time a Korean company has taken on such a project abroad. The initial phase of the project will cost around $75 million and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
The project is a joint effort with Indonesia’s Sinar Mas Group. LG CNS will handle the entire construction, from the advanced cooling systems to the power and telecommunications infrastructure. The new 11-story data center will be a beast, designed to hold over 100,000 servers. While it starts with a 30-megawatt power capacity, the plan is to expand it to 220 megawatts, which would make it the largest data center in Indonesia.
This isn’t just any data center; it’s specifically designed for the massive power demands of AI. LG plans to use its top-tier technology, including advanced cooling systems from LG Electronics and battery backups from LG Energy Solution. The goal is to create a state-of-the-art facility that can reliably power the high-density servers needed for AI processing.
For LG CNS, this project is a launchpad. “Leveraging this project, we aim to expand our AI data center business in Southeast Asia,” said CEO Hyun Shin-gyoon, pointing to Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia as key markets. After building and operating numerous data centers in Korea, the company is now taking its expertise to the global stage.
