Apple has hit a mind-boggling milestone, announcing it has now shipped its three billionth iPhone since the first device launched back in 2007. CEO Tim Cook shared the news during the company’s strong third-quarter earnings call, where he also revealed that Apple brought in $94 billion in revenue.
The company hit the two billion mark sometime in 2021, showing just how fast sales are accelerating. According to Apple expert Mark Gurman, some of this recent sales boost might be coming from fear. He suggests people are buying iPhones now before potential new tariffs from the Trump administration make them even more expensive in the future. Those tariffs are already having an impact, costing Apple $800 million last quarter, with an expected hit of $1.1 billion in the next one.
Looking ahead, Apple is getting ready to announce its next lineup of iPhones in September. Gurman reports that this year’s new models could include an “iPhone 17 Air.” The new “Air” model will reportedly be ultra-thin with a single camera and a basic A19 chip, and could cost around $900.
Beyond the iPhone, Cook also said Apple is “significantly growing” its investment in artificial intelligence. He even hinted that the company might buy another firm to speed up its AI development, though he didn’t name any specific targets. The announcements show Apple is celebrating a massive achievement while already looking ahead to its next big moves in hardware and AI.
