Microsoft just gave its Copilot AI a major upgrade: it can now see and understand anything on your desktop. This new feature, called “Desktop Share,” allows the AI assistant to view any app window or your entire screen, not just the content in your web browser.
Previously, Copilot’s vision was limited to the Microsoft Edge browser. Now, by clicking a new eyeglasses icon in the Copilot app, you can choose exactly what you want the AI to see. This means you can stop trying to describe your problems to the AI and instead show it.
This simple change unlocks numerous useful possibilities. For example, if you’re trying to polish your resume in Microsoft Word, you can share the window with Copilot and ask it to suggest more professional phrasing. If you’re struggling to design a presentation, you can show a slide and ask for layout ideas. It even works with games, helping you navigate confusing settings menus by looking at the screen and offering tips.
If you’re worried about privacy, Microsoft lets you control what the AI sees. You have to choose to share a window actively so that Copilot won’t be snooping on your screen without your permission. For now, the feature is rolling out to Windows Insiders, but it will soon be available to all Windows 11 users.
This might seem like a small update, but it’s a huge step toward making AI feel like a true personal assistant. It removes the friction of having to explain everything. Instead, you can just point at something on your computer and ask for help. It’s a quiet but powerful change that could make Copilot one of the most useful tools on your PC.
