Spotify is continuing its push to become an all-in-one app by stepping into the fitness world. The streaming giant is now offering “guided workout experiences” and on-demand Peloton classes directly through its platform.
Premium Spotify subscribers will gain access to Peloton’s extensive library of more than 1,400 classes directly within the app. Free and Premium users alike can also browse specially curated playlists, which are listed under the “fitness” genre. This new feature aims to integrate workout routines seamlessly into users’ daily Spotify experience.
Spotify mentioned that while most of the classes are in English, some options are available in Spanish and German. Similar to its music and podcasts, Spotify allows users to switch between different devices for their fitness content. This means you can start a video workout on your TV and then easily transition to an audio-only version on your phone or smart speaker. Users even have the option to download the classes for offline use, offering greater flexibility.
While venturing into the fitness category might seem like a sudden change for Spotify, the company explained its reasoning. It found that nearly 70 percent of its Premium subscribers work out monthly. Furthermore, fitness and workout content proved to be one of the top uses for its “Prompted Playlist” feature, indicating a strong existing demand among its user base.
Spotify has been steadily expanding its offerings beyond just music for quite some time. Recent efforts include giving users ways to buy physical books or create group chats. This latest move into fitness aligns with the company’s broader strategy to evolve into a comprehensive platform that caters to various aspects of its users’ lives, moving closer to its “everything app” ambition.
