WhatsApp has announced several useful updates for its messaging platform, starting today, to make life easier for its users. One of the most anticipated features is the option to have two different accounts on a single iOS device. While Android users have enjoyed this for years, iPhone users can now be logged into two separate accounts at the same time. A small profile photo for the active account will show up in the bottom tab, making it clear which persona you’re using to send messages.
Other new features aim to make moving chat histories much smoother. This includes transferring chats between different platforms, like from iOS to Android, as well as between devices within the same operating system. This chat transfer should make it much simpler to keep all your messages when you get a new phone, especially if you’re switching between Apple and Android devices.
There’s also a handy new option to delete large files directly from a WhatsApp chat. This helps avoid your storage getting too cluttered. You can find this under the “Manage Storage” option when you tap on a chat’s name, and it even includes an option to delete just the media files from a conversation.
And, as expected from any modern tech announcement, there are also some new AI features. WhatsApp now supports using Meta AI for quick and easy photo editing. This includes tasks like removing backgrounds, changing the style of a picture, and deleting unwanted elements from an image.
There’s also a “Writing Help” prompt that uses AI to assist you in drafting messages. Meta’s blog post assures users that even when using this AI writing assistant, chats remain private. WhatsApp says all these new features will be rolling out to users “soon.”
