President Donald Trump recently took to social media to share some news regarding your monthly electric bill. He says Microsoft is about to announce changes to prevent regular people from paying more for power just because tech companies are building massive AI data centers.

Writing on Truth Social, Trump made his stance clear. He said he never wants Americans to see higher utility bills because of data centers. He mentioned that his administration is working closely with major tech firms to get them to commit to the American public. According to the President, Microsoft is the first company to step up, and it will start making changes this week to ensure it doesn’t leave taxpayers “picking up the tab” for its power use.

This move comes at a busy time for the President. With midterm elections approaching, Trump is looking for ways to cut costs for families. He knows that the tariffs he placed on imported goods last year have pushed prices up across the economy. In the last few months, he has also announced a “warrior dividend” for soldiers and tried to lower mortgage rates by demanding the government buy $200 billion in mortgage bonds.

The tech industry’s hunger for power is a growing problem. These massive data centers require a huge amount of electricity to run artificial intelligence programs. Just last week, Meta signed deals with three nuclear power companies to run a center in Ohio. Meanwhile, utility companies have already raised electricity prices for consumers by 6% over the last year, especially in states where these data centers are popping up.

Microsoft is listening to these concerns. Brad Smith, the company’s president, previously told a crowd in Wisconsin that they are doing everything they can to stop residents from seeing higher bills. However, the company hasn’t had a smooth ride everywhere. It recently canceled plans for a data center in Caledonia, Wisconsin, after residents strongly opposed the project.

Trump’s latest announcement suggests that more tech giants might soon follow Microsoft’s lead. He promised more updates in the coming weeks as he pushes these companies to cover their own energy costs.
