Patreon to Take Bigger Cut from New Creators

Patreon, the popular platform that helps creators earn money from their fans, announced on Monday that it’s changing its pricing. The company is replacing its old system, which offered either an 8% or 12% cut, with a single, flat 10% fee.

However, if you’re already a creator on the platform, you can breathe a sigh of relief. This price hike will only apply to new pages created after August 4, 2025. Existing users will get to keep their current, lower rate.

Patreon states that the change is necessary because the platform has undergone significant evolution since its last price update six years ago. The company pointed out that it’s no longer just a simple payment processor. It has added a wide range of new features for creators, including native video hosting, livestreaming tools, options for selling digital products, and the ability for fans to buy gift subscriptions.

While no one likes a price increase, the news creates a clear deadline for anyone thinking about launching a page. If you’ve been considering setting up a Patreon, you now have a compelling reason to do so soon. By creating your page before the August 4th cutoff, you can lock in the more popular 8% rate indefinitely. Anyone who waits until after that date will automatically be placed on the new, more expensive 10% plan.
