In a rare moment of honesty for the cutthroat tech industry, Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman admitted that the competition has an edge. Speaking to Bloomberg, Suleyman acknowledged that Google’s new Gemini 3 model “can do things that Copilot can’t do.”

It is unusual to hear a tech leader give credit to a rival product, especially as companies race to claim the “best AI” title. However, Suleyman didn’t dwell on the deficit. He quickly pointed out that the comparison goes both ways. While Gemini 3 might have raw power and creative strengths, he believes Copilot wins in everyday practical use—specifically because of its “eyes.”

Suleyman highlighted Copilot’s ability to see exactly what the user sees. “Copilot is actually amazing for vision,” he said. He described how users can share their mobile or desktop screens with the AI to get real-time feedback. The goal isn’t just to be the smartest machine in the room; it is to be a helpful partner that unblocks you when you get stuck at work or home.

Microsoft is betting big on this utility by stuffing Copilot into everything, including Windows 11, Excel, and Edge. Suleyman calls this approach “humanist superintelligence.” He explained that they want an AI that assists humans rather than acting on its own. He also made a firm promise regarding safety: if their AI ever starts behaving unpredictably or appears to be “running away” from their control, they will stop developing it immediately.

This admission creates a clear split in the market. Google is pushing Gemini 3 as the brainiest model for understanding complex data, while Microsoft positions Copilot as the grounded, always-there assistant for daily tasks. For consumers tired of vague marketing hype, this clarity is actually good news. It suggests a future where we use different AI tools for different needs, rather than waiting for one app to do it all.
