Amazon is making a big push into the grocery business, expanding its same-day delivery service to include fresh food in over 1,000 US cities. Shoppers can now get things like produce, dairy, meat, and frozen foods delivered right to their door on the same day they order.
A cool feature is that you can now mix grocery and non-grocery items into a single order and have everything arrive together. Amazon tested this service in Phoenix last year before this big rollout.
This move is a clear shot at rivals like Walmart and Instacart as Amazon’s CEO, Andy Jassy, is determined to grab a bigger piece of the massive grocery market. The company has been making strategic moves for years, starting with its purchase of Whole Foods back in 2017. Since then, it has experimented with things like self-checkout technology and even opened its Amazon-branded grocery stores.
For customers, the service works just like Amazon’s other same-day offerings. Prime members will get free delivery on orders over $25, while non-Prime members can pay a $12.99 shipping fee. And this is just the beginning. Amazon says it plans to expand the service to over 2,300 cities by the end of 2025, with even more locations coming next year.
