Adobe just released a fresh wave of updates for Premiere Pro and After Effects, introducing new artificial intelligence tools designed to take the headache out of tedious editing tasks. These changes aim to help video editors finish their work much faster by automating the most repetitive parts of the process.
The biggest highlight for Premiere Pro is a new feature called AI Object Mask. In the past, editors had to spend hours manually tracing a person or an object frame by frame to separate them from the background. Now, you can hover your mouse over an object and click. The AI instantly creates a mask that follows the movement throughout the entire clip. While the tool is incredibly accurate on its own, you can still jump in and resize or adjust the mask if needed.
A major plus for professionals is that this processing happens entirely on your own computer rather than in the cloud. Adobe also emphasized that it does not use your private project data to train its AI models, which should ease any privacy concerns.
The company also gave its standard Shape Mask tools a serious speed boost. You can now generate circles, rectangles, or pen-path masks directly from the main toolbar with more precise controls. More importantly, these masks now track moving objects 20 times faster than previous versions. This means you can spend more time being creative and less time staring at a progress bar. Additionally, Adobe integrated its Stock library and Firefly digital canvas directly into the program so you can pull in assets without switching apps.
After Effects users have a few reasons to celebrate as well. The update finally lets you import SVG files—the standard format used in Adobe Illustrator—making it much easier to move graphics between the two programs. You can now build 3D objects such as cubes, spheres, and cylinders directly in the software using new parametric meshes. This allows editors to create photorealistic 3D graphics without needing to learn a completely separate 3D design program.
