Is Spotify’s AI DJ still not available where you live? If so, you’re not alone. Many loyal subscribers around the world have felt this frustration, but that’s finally changing! Spotify is now bringing its digital music selector to more regions.
For years, the AI DJ was only available in a few markets, leading many subscribers to complain on social media. But now, Spotify has officially announced that it will launch the AI DJ in more countries. Starting today, Premium users in several European countries will get access to the AI DJ, including Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, and Switzerland. The feature is also rolling out to users in Brazil and South Korea.
Besides coming to more countries, Spotify is also adding more languages. You can now use the AI DJ in French, German, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese, making it much easier to make voice requests in your native language. This has been a very slow rollout for one of the best music streaming service’s most popular features. Users worldwide have been confused by the delay, especially since the AI DJ has been a flagship Spotify feature for almost three years.
When Spotify first launched the AI DJ in early 2023, it was only for Premium subscribers in the US and Canada. Soon after, Spotify expanded its availability to music fans in the UK and Ireland. Later, it rolled out to Australia and New Zealand, as well as some markets in Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Even with these expansions, the AI DJ’s availability still felt quite limited. Many users in larger markets were still left out. This particularly affected Premium subscribers in European countries like France and Germany, and Spotify users haven’t held back their annoyance.
One Redditor recently posted: “I got a notification saying the DJ was there… so I clicked on it, and it said it wasn’t available in my country.” Hopefully, these frustrations will end now that Spotify is bringing the AI DJ to the countries that have been waiting. We reached out to Spotify, who explained why the AI DJ took so long to reach more markets. They shared:
“To build DJ, we want it to feel like a native experience. So, we went through over 100 auditions, selecting voice talent that felt authentic to each market. From there, the team worked with local teams to help shape each DJ’s personality — making sure the tone, warmth, and cultural nuance felt genuinely local, not just translated.” Additionally, the platform hinted at new AI DJ features coming soon: “Our plan is to continue to gather listener feedback and enhance the DJ experience to make it more interactive for our listeners.”
