Anthropic and SpaceX have made a deal that lets Anthropic, the company behind the AI model Claude, use xAI’s Colossus 1 data center. Because of this, Anthropic is now doubling the usage limits for paid users of Claude Code and easing other restrictions, the company announced.
The agreement with SpaceX means Anthropic can use “all the computing power” at SpaceX’s Colossus 1 data center. This will add over 300 megawatts of new capacity “within the month.” Anthropic has also recently made deals with Amazon and Google. As part of the deal, Anthropic has also “shown interest in working with SpaceX to develop multiple gigawatts of AI computing capacity in orbit,” the companies said. SpaceX recently filed documents with the FCC, indicating its desire to launch a million satellites to create a data center in space.
Paid users of Claude Code (which includes people on Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans) should see immediate benefits from this agreement. Anthropic is doubling the five-hour usage limits for Claude Code. It’s also getting rid of the “peak hours” restrictions for Pro and Max users, and significantly increasing the API usage limits for Claude Opus models.
Anthropic working with Elon Musk’s SpaceX (which now owns xAI) might seem like a strange partnership. Musk recently called Anthropic “misanthropic and evil” and has often criticized its CEO, Dario Amodei. But in a post on X, he said he was “impressed” with the Anthropic team and that Claude will “probably” be good. He added in another post, “We keep the right to take back the computing power if their AI does things that harm humanity.”
