Nvidia is showing some love to its often-forgotten streaming box, the Shield TV. On Tuesday, the company released its first software update for the device in almost a year, a clear sign that it hasn’t given up on the powerful Android-powered gadget.
The new update, officially called “Shield Experience Upgrade 9.2.4,” is not packed with flashy new features. Instead, it focuses on the important stuff: security and bug fixes. The patch brings the device’s security up to date as of January 2026 and squashes a number of annoying glitches.
For example, the update resolves a problem that was causing playback issues on Disney+. It also fixes a bug where third-party remotes would stop working with an Xbox after the console went into sleep mode. Other fixes address random crashes and issues with Bluetooth remote disconnections. While it might not be the most exciting update, it’s a welcome sign of life for a product that many feared was being left behind.
Nvidia hasn’t announced any plans for a new Shield TV model, but the company isn’t killing off the current one either. In a recent interview, a senior Nvidia executive said they have no plans to end support anytime soon and even teased that they have “played with new concepts” for a future refresh.
He also said that if a new model does come out, it will likely support the latest video technologies like the AV1 codec and HDR10+, which would be a major upgrade.
For now, the current Nvidia Shield TV Pro remains a top choice for gamers. Its ability to stream games in 4K and its excellent upscaling of lower-resolution content make it a unique and powerful device. With this new update, it’s clear Nvidia still sees a place for the Shield in its lineup.
