Meta just launched a powerful new AI tool that can automatically translate, dub, and even lip-sync your Reels, making it possible for your videos to be understood by a global audience. The new feature, powered by Meta AI, is now available on both Facebook and Instagram and currently supports English, Spanish, Hindi, and Portuguese.
This is a huge step up from simple captions or subtitles. The AI is so advanced that it can mimic a creator’s original tone of voice and cadence, and even match lip movements to the newly translated audio. This adds a level of realism that was previously only possible in big-budget productions. Imagine watching a cooking tutorial from Brazil that sounds like it was recorded in your own kitchen.
To be clear, you won’t mistake the dubbed version for the original. All AI-translated Reels will be clearly labeled. Viewers will also have the option to turn off the translation, opt out of the lip-sync, or watch the video in its original language.
For now, the feature is free for creators on Facebook with at least 1,000 followers and for all public Instagram accounts in countries where Meta AI is available. The company says its goal is to make short-form video more accessible and enjoyable across different cultures.
This new technology gives Meta a major advantage over its rivals. While YouTube and TikTok have experimented with translation, neither offers real-time voice dubbing with lip-syncing. If Meta can roll this out smoothly to more languages, it could become the go-to platform for international video content.
